Presentation of the publication of the 59th Zagreb Salon of Architecture and Urbanism “Dialogues / Monologues”

Discursive programme

We invite you to the presentation of the publication 59th Zagreb Salon of Architecture and Urbanism “Dialogues/Monologues”, which will take place at the Art Pavilion in Zagreb on Saturday, 5 September, starting at 1 p.m.

The 59th Zagreb Salon of Architecture and Urbanism “Dialogues/Monologues” moves from an exhibition format into a lasting printed form with a publication bringing together the ideas, projects and reflections presented at the Salon, while expanding on them through new readings and interpretations. The discussion will be opened by Toma Plejić, President of the Croatian Architects’ Association, and former President Mia Roth Čerina, during whose term the 59th Salon was realised. They will provide broader insight into the circumstances surrounding its creation and its role within the activities of the Association.

The publication and the process of translating the exhibition display into print will be discussed by its editors-in-chief, Iva Letilović and Igor Pedišić, designer Ira Payer, and Karin Šerman, one of the contributing authors. They will also be joined by Irena Bekić, Director of the Art Pavilion, who will reflect on the ongoing renovation of the building, its transformation and its reintegration into the cultural life of the city.

The discussion will be followed by an informal gathering with refreshments. The event is open to all interested members of the public and no prior registration is required.

The 59th Zagreb Salon of Architecture and Urbanism “Dialogues/Monologues” was held at the Art Pavilion in Zagreb and organised by the Croatian Architects’ Association. The Salon was curated by architects Iva Letilović and Igor Pedišić, and featured 124 works selected from more than 250 submissions: 40 realised projects, 36 conceptual and design projects, 39 student works, and 9 publications and written works. The overarching theme of the Salon was adaptation and repurposing — reuse — understood as the renewed use of existing historic structures, buildings and spaces, explored through the relationship between the existing and the new, in dialogue or monologue. The architectural model served as the exhibition’s principal medium, placing emphasis on the legibility and tactile quality of the physical model.
