The Ethnographic Museum in Zagreb was founded in 1919. and is located in the Art Nouveau palace on Mažuranić Square, designed by Alojz Vjekoslav Bastl. With more than 85,000 objects, it is the largest Croatian museum specializing in ethnology and cultural anthropology. The holdings consist of textile items, collections of traditional economy, handicrafts, furniture, crafts, customs and other segments of everyday life, and the Collection of Non-European Cultures, created through donations from sailors, travelers and artists, is particularly noteworthy. The museum preserves rich photo documentation, a library with 25,000 volumes, its own conservation and restoration service, and developed pedagogical activities. It is presented to the public through a permanent exhibition, exhibitions, publications, professional meetings, concerts, lectures and other educational programs.
