They say the best way to explore a city is on foot, as it allows you to soak in its unique atmosphere step by step. Cultural walks are a special highlight of the Zagreb Museum Weekend — perfect for anyone who wants to experience the city in all its fullness. On each of these walks, museums and streets blend into a shared story: whether it’s about historic, old Zagreb or the Zagreb that’s still emerging, a guided walk gives every story its meaning and place in the city’s fabric. The programs take you through the Upper Town and Kaptol, transport you back to the Middle Ages with the “Gradec Time Machine,” uncover the industrial past in Branimirova Street, or broaden your perspective toward Sesvete with the “Jankić Walk.” Whether you choose one or all of them, your walk has the potential to be historic!
The attractions and destinations of the Zagreb Museum Weekend are full of unique and fascinating experiences, but what’s even more important — at least for cycling enthusiasts — is that they’re located in the lowlands. Recently, Zagreb introduced the Bajs platform, which makes renting bicycles and dropping them off at convenient locations a breeze. The Zagreb Museum Weekend isn’t designed to be a series of ups and downs, at least not when it comes to the exhibition experiences and fun, because getting to them by bike will be a smooth, flat ride.
Blue trams have long been a symbol of Zagreb, and during the Zagreb Museum Weekend, they’re also an ideal way to explore cultural sites, as tram tracks connect key cultural destinations in the city’s more distant areas. But Zagreb’s trams don’t just take you from point A to point B — they guide you through the city’s history and everyday life, offering visitors a comprehensive and authentic Zagreb experience. And speaking of trams — at the Nikola Tesla Technical Museum, you can see an original Zagreb tram from the first half of the 20th century, now a valuable museum exhibit that serves as a reminder of how the city evolved to the sound of bells and the screech of tracks.
During Zagreb Museum Weekend, from Friday to Sunday, everyone can travel by train free of charge! The train combines practicality with a special experience, and throughout the main three days of the event visitors are offered completely free transport.
As part of Zagreb’s suburban rail network, free train rides are available on the route Dugo Selo – Zagreb Main Station – Savski Marof and back, from Friday to Sunday between 10:00 and 22:00, according to the valid timetable. Free return tickets can be collected at HŽ Passenger Transport ticket offices or directly on the train – all you need to do is state the reason for your journey: MUV!
Take this opportunity to enjoy a relaxed tour of museums along Zagreb’s main railway line – without the stress of traffic, crowds or parking.
