The permanent exhibition of the Nikola Tesla Technical Museum encompasses 14 thematic sections. The Astronautics department displays models of spacecraft, rockets and orbital stations, while the Planetarium offers visitors an immersive view of the starry sky. The Nikola Tesla Demonstration Cabinet presents the life and inventions of the great scientist, and Transformation of Energy traces the development from muscular power through steam engines to combustion and jet engines. This is followed by displays on electrical energy, nuclear energy and the operation of the Krško Nuclear Power Plant, complemented by an Information Corner on radioactive waste.
Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency is presented in five areas – from biomass and wind to solar, hydro and geothermal systems. The history of firefighting and transport is illustrated with original vehicles and equipment, while Basics of Agriculture and the Apiary focus on soil cultivation and the world of bees, including live colonies in transparent hives.
The Mining, Geology and Oil department explores the exploitation of mineral resources, the origins and processing of oil and gas, and includes an underground mine stretching over 300 metres, offering a realistic mining experience. The specialised Geodesy – Land Registry section reconstructs a cadastral office from the turn of the 20th century.
Alongside more than 3,000 exhibited items, the museum’s storerooms house many times more artefacts. A selection is displayed through the Open Doors programme, featuring collections of computer, radio and television technology, household and medical appliances, photography, film and many other fields.
