The Museum of Arts and Crafts is the most important Croatian art museum dedicated to the preservation, research and presentation of objects of fine and applied arts and design. Located in the heart of Zagreb’s Lower Town on the Republic of Croatia Square, in the historicist palace of Herman Bollé, MUO has established itself throughout its long history as one of the most important cultural institutions in the City of Zagreb and beyond. Its rich holdings contain more than one hundred thousand objects dating from the 14th century. century to the present day. A special exhibition is also located in the Gvozdanović Palace in the Upper Town, whose representative and authentic ambience depicts the life of Zagreb’s bourgeoisie from the late 19th century. century. In 2018, the Museum building was closed for renovation, but the Museum lives on and continues its activities with partner museums and galleries in the country and abroad, and in a new exhibition space – the MUO Gallery at Ilica 163, which, with its dynamic exhibition cycles, connects heritage and current topics of art and design in a contemporary way.
