The artistic intervention in public space “Fragments of Freedom” by Martina Mezak consists of the installation of eight flags made of silver protective foil for survival. Using the symbolism of the selected material and its design, the absence of any features or markings on the flags, as well as the selected location in the park next to the railway station for their installation, this layered artistic work indicates multiple current narratives – primarily freedom, humanity and migration, observed through the prism of a contemporary socio-political perspective. The sound-reflective intervention engages, invites reflection and announces the necessity of a state of transformation, adaptation and reorganization – a kind of post-earthquake present of the Art Pavilion in Zagreb.
