Extended Festival: Željka Klemenčić, The Infinite Pot
The Infinite Pot is conceived as an all-day and two-day continuous cooking of various simple ingredients in one large pot. During the day the author will empty the pot – serving guests soup/stew from it – and constantly add new ingredients, so that the contents will keep changing while remaining the same – in the same pot.
The author is interested in this form of a single infinite pot from several aspects:
1. as a simultaneous act of resistance to fast food (as a symbol of consumer society) and to slow food (as a symbol of elitist refined consumption reserved for the upper class),
2. as a living image of the infinite, invisible and socially unrecognised work of women within families,
3. as an intimate act of sharing food with strangers around a table, in which the food from the pot represents social glue and an opportunity for genuine human contact, but also for a cultural melting pot.
