Founded in 1907. The Zagreb City Museum is the largest city museum in the Republic of Croatia. It is located in the former monastery of the nuns of St. Clare, built in 1650. Thoroughly renovated (1993-1998), the museum covers an area of 6,000 square meters. The courtyard is adorned with Zagreb’s oldest painted sundial, which still shows the exact time.
Portraying the city, the Museum conveys a message about the identity and cultural heritage of Zagreb, from the ancient past (archaeological finds presented in situ) to the present day.
The museum pays special attention to people with disabilities; a visit with a wheelchair is possible, and for blind and deaf-blind visitors, each of the 45 topics of the permanent exhibition has an introductory text in Braille.
Dogs are welcome to visit the Museum with their owners. Admission for dogs is free, but to make the visit safe and enjoyable for all visitors, it is mandatory to keep them on a leash and under control.
