What About an Inheritance That No One Wants? Confronting Controversial Architecture: A Dialogue About Identity, Meaning, Renewal and the Future
Discursive programme

At a time when cultural heritage is increasingly being re-examined through a political and social prism, we invite you to the panel discussion “What about the heritage that no one wants?” which will bring together relevant experts from Croatia and Bulgaria – architects, conservators, art historians and museum workers – to explore new approaches to the interpretation and restoration of controversial monuments through dialogue. Through concrete examples such as the Buzludzha monument, as well as Croatian localities with a challenging heritage, the panel will open up key questions: How to work with heritage that society no longer recognizes as its own? Can we transform it into a space of dialogue instead of conflict? What role do professions, institutions and the community play in this?
A dynamic discussion awaits you on layers of meaning, the politics of memory and the potential of unwanted places to become a platform for a new understanding of the past – and the future.
