The collection of artworks by painter, printmaker, and restorer Josip Restek comprises 410 works—drawings, watercolours, individual prints, print portfolios, and oil paintings. In 2006, the artist’s widow, Mrs. Blanka Restek, generously donated the collection to the City of Zagreb, and it has since been preserved at the Klovićevi Dvori Gallery.
Josip Restek was born on March 7, 1915, in Volavje near Jastrebarsko. On the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the artist’s birth, we are presenting a selection of prints and oil paintings from this donation.
Over the course of five decades of artistic work, Josip Restek created an extensive body of work, dedicating himself in particular to the exploration of printmaking and graphic techniques. For the Zagreb Museum Weekend, we have chosen to present a series of graphic portfolios featuring motifs of the city of Zagreb.
Josip Restek dedicated three graphic portfolios to the city of Zagreb:
Zagreb (1949), featuring eight lithographs
Zagreb (1965), comprising eight colour woodcuts
Zagreb (1986), containing eight linocuts
